Note to Self Future Photog?
May 28

I am currently in the middle of what amounts to a fairly major overhaul of ellsworthlink.net and there is a lot of stuff just piling up, especially on the right-hand side of the blog page… Lots of reasons for the changes: a badly needed upgrade to the blogging software—WordPress—to which I was at least 3 or 4 “point” versions behind (1.5 vs the current 2.2), the need to move from a really crappy ISP to a much better one, as well as a desire to experiment more with Web 2.0 technologies.

In any case, it isn’t going to stay this way. There will hopefully be significantly more functionality once things settle down, but not so much more that you can’t find your way around.

You also probably noticed that you did not get an email alert about this post. That functionality also broke with the site migration from IMHosted to HostGator. I’ve still got a list of who was on the updates before and I will send you all a note about how to “re-up” your subscription. And if you were annoyed by the emails, this will be a good time to not bother renewing. Or, if you’re a bigger geek than me, you may be subscribed to the RSS feed and reading it from your newsreader. (I’ve only just subscribed to the RSS feed as a part of this whole migration/upgrade exercise.)

I like it.. still looking around at the different things you have added. :) are you going to put the cartoon pics of you and Deb back up? Those were cute.. you should add a picture of Colin too! :)

    Enjoy your last day off!

Thank you for your technical leadership for this family and friends. The overall look here is fresh. I registered, and updated my options.

Is WordPress something I’d have to buy to use? And would it make sense for me to have it for an online journal and/or site to display my articles? That’s what you get for your leadership — questions from the older generation.

Dad—WordPress(.org) is what mom is using for her scrapbook… It is not “for pay,” but a product of the open source revolution. It is relatively trivial to set up, but much more demanding to customize. Would be relatively-to-very easy to set up for your articles, especially since so many of them already reside on the server.

Got it. Better, I understand you and John Mark talked about it, and me; and John came over here this evening to show me the — what is it, prototype? — for dan.ellsworthlink.net . He had some questions to ask and is working on customizing it for me, all with a cheery and early “Happy Father’s Day” thrown in.

Meanwhile, your work in getting us a new host feels like a Father’s Day contribution to me. Technical support from sons — it’s a good life.

By the way, I told him what I now tell you, that the biggest thing for me this Father’s Day is that I see ALL three of my sons as good fathers.

I need to try things out with WordPress this week, but with an alarm clock set so I don’t neglect other things I really need to get done.

I like it that your cartoon-style images appear bigger now than they used to.
